Biography
Chris has written an array of instrumental works ranging from 35 piece orchestra to soloist works. He has composed music for jazz bands to rock bands and has written many pieces for chamber ensembles. Highlights include working with renowned Theremin player Lydia Kavina on a piece for Trinity Laban’s Runswick Competition. During his time at Trinity Laban, Chris wrote music for the Apollo Consort Contemporary Music Society, the New Music Recording Sessions (working with conductor Gregory Rose), and Trinity Laban’s Rude Health music festivals. After graduating he was immediately invited by Trinity Laban to compose the music for a promotional film which was released on their Youtube channel.
As well as composing music Chris has enjoyed exploring other artistic avenues. He has had great joy in Orchestrating and arranging works many times. This has led to involvement on projects including arranging opera and musical theatre songs for Puzzle Piece Opera. The accompaniments were arranged for chamber ensembles to perform to live audiences. Chris has also enjoyed writing and usually writes his own lyrics for his songs and has recently started working on writing short fiction. He also explores film/photography and editing, utilising these skills regularly in his own projects.
Chris is a London based Composer, Song Writer, Orchestrator and Film Maker originally from Newcastle upon Tyne. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Whilst there he studied on the Composition course, run by Dominic Murcott, having been taught throughout his studies by composers Amir Konjani, Laura Jurd, Gwyn Pritchard and Matt Roberts.
Whilst enjoying exploration within all music genres, Chris specialises in music for film and theatrical backgrounds. A love for melodic tunes are key to his composition and song writing style whilst at times also trying to find new angles to explore theatricality.
Recent highlights for Chris includes his work ‘The March of the Penguins’ being performed by the Royal Northern Sinfonia at the Glasshouse International Centre of Music in 2023. Since then, he released his first single ‘You’ll Always Be In My Heart’ with vocalist Ella Brookes. This was released worldwide on all music streaming platforms and was received positively. Chris then followed this up with the Christmas single ’To Have One More Christmas With You’ with vocalist Ronnie Law. The song was broadcast on BBC Radio Newcastle thanks to BBC Music Introducing.
